Guiding questions

Have you assessed and taken steps to address risks to people - end-users, local communities, and workers (human rights due diligence)? Does this due diligence extend to business partners and suppliers?

Have you identified potential positive outcomes of the project, that expand the realisation of rights?

Is the project planned and costed to minimise the risk of rights abuses and of passing human rights risks down the supply chain?

Does the project have the appropriate skills and expertise to ensure that the relevant human rights issues are understood and inform planning and implementation?

Do you have clear processes in place to share information about the project with stakeholders?

Are there clear lines of accountability for the outcomes of the project, including the management of human rights risks and opportunities, and remediation processes?

Has non-discrimination been embedded from the outset of the project? Have you assessed how the risks and opportunities will affect different people based on the above characteristics? This applies to the project team, and to the people impacted by the project. Bases for discrimination include ethnicity, gender identity, national or social origin, immigration status, sexual orientation, religious identity, political or other opinion, language, literacy, property tenure, income level, ability, age, housing, employment or other status.
